We must defend Medicare against increased privatization, fight to protect Medicaid, and stand up to any policies that will increase financial costs and barriers to healthcare access.
Regardless of political ideology or affiliation, no one wants to see their loved ones suffer because they cannot access the healthcare they need due to the premium, deductibles, and copays charged by their insurance companies. The moment is ripe for agitating and organizing for a health system that provides healthcare as a human right rather than a pay-or-die commodity rationed by insurance companies. We must continue to push for the passage of the New York Health Act which would provide access to healthcare for all New York residents regardless of income level, wealth, employment status, or immigration status.
By reaching deep into our communities and telling the untold stories of how New Yorkers suffer due to the for-profit, insurance dominated healthcare system, we can expose how the current system erodes human dignity. Together, we can bring people together around a solution that will deliver healthcare justice for all of us.
