The PNHP-NY Metro Research/Study Group will meet on Tuesday, February 5, 6:00 - 7:30 pm, at our usual location, Mt. Sinai/Beth Israel Ambulatory Care Center, on Union Square in a 2nd floor meeting room.
Our topic will be “Why does the US Spend So Much More for Health Care than Any Other Country?” Is it the insurance companies? Is it the way we delivery health care? Or is it the market orientation of our health care system?
We will go over three readings (available online here):
(1) A current updating of a classic study of why we spend so much ("It's Still the Prices, Stupid")
(2) A blog post Len wrote several years ago (updated slightly) providing a seldom-discussed explanation of "Why does US Health Care Cost So Much".
(3) A report from a recent discussion sponsored by the Society of Actuaries displaying how the "mainstream" discusses the high cost of health care and what should be done about it ("Initiative 1811", so called because we spend 18% of GDP while everyone else spends about 11%)
