Powered by the grassroots efforts of thousands of progressive activists, the incoming New York State Senate includes a solid majority who say they support universal healthcare. So this is a crucial moment to crank up the public awareness of this issue by taking action. This can set the stage for our increased efforts next year to pass the New York Health Act, which would provide high quality publicly-funded healthcare for all New York residents, regardless of employment or immigration status.

In partnership with Physicians for a National Health Program - NY Metro and NYC Democratic Socialists of America, we are launching our Picket the Profiteers campaign to show the public who is making huge profits off their health. As a kickoff, we are taking direct action against the New York Health Plan Association (NYHPA), a trade association for the private health insurance companies of New York, holding its annual conference in Troy.  NYHPA is an active member of the misnamed "Realities of Single Payer" coalition, whose mission is to defeat the New York Health Act, heavily employing lies, distortions and scare tactics to preserve their profits, which would be largely dismantled if this bill passed.
