32 million people would lose health coverage under the latest right-wing plan to gut health care funding.
Republicans in Congress have been secretly working on the Graham-Cassidy health care bill for week and now they want to rush it to a vote by September 30.
Here’s what you can do right now and this week (forward this email to friends!):
1.) Call 844-898-1199 to connect with your Representative and tell them to reject Graham-Cassidy health care bill.
Graham-Cassidy takes the worst parts of each of the Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act and combines them into one bill. It allows insurance companies to discriminate against people with preexisting conditions. It destroys Medicaid as we know it, taking $19 billion in Medicaid funding from New York and leaving millions of people who otherwise couldn’t afford it without health care. And it's rumored it could try to ban states like New York from setting up our own single-payer, universal health care system.
Graham-Cassidy has to be stopped. Call 844-898-1199 to connect with your Representative now. Tell them you expect them to oppose this disastrous bill because health care is a human right.
2.) Pick up the phone to call across the country. Our allies at 1199 SEUI will have a HUB dialer up. Volunteers are needed to call people in Ohio and other states. Here are the instructions to join the calling campaign: To log into the campaign, you need only go to hubdialer.com/agent and log in with the campaign ID 09740 and the passcode 171717. And here is the training video: https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/ydnhj71ul4?popover=true A help hotline is up again as well, 844-898-1199.
3.) Join a local Congressional recess action. Demonstrations, rallies, die-ins, and more are being planned to make sure our members of Congress know that we expect them to stand up for health care as a human right.

- Purchase buttons and bumperstickers via the Campaign for New York Health website.
Base Building to WIN - Organizing Training
Base building refers to “people who are directly impacted by injustice joining together to build power and develop leadership in order to collectively change our conditions.” Largely missing from our organizing have been the uninsured and underinsured, the working-class, people of color, immigrants, the disabled, folks most impacted by the disparities inherent in the current system. The only way to reach them is through deliberate one-on-one outreach and relationship building.
Happy summer! The New York State legislature might be on vacation -- but that doesn’t mean we are! An amazing healthcare justice movement is on the rise, demanding Medicare for All and stopping the terrible bills proposed by Congressional Republicans. The coming months are critical to growing and strengthening our statewide movement for health care as a human right.
3 ways to help build the movement to #PassNYHealth
1. Donate to support our grassroots organizing work. The Campaign for New York Health is committed to local organizing that builds our movement for healthcare for all of us. Every week, we are distributing organizing materials, hosting events and trainings, and doing our best to support all the volunteer organizers stepping up to lead the fight in their communities.
2. Recruit your friends to support the Campaign for New York Health via social media. We post articles and action items everyday, like this radio debate between New York Health champion Assemblymember Dick Gottfried and the Empire Center’s Bill Hammond. (Who do you think wins this one?)
3. Hit the streets! There a many ways to organize in your community to build support for universal health care. When the legislative session starts in January, we need our movement to be bigger, stronger, and ready to make the New York State Senate pass New York Health. Here's how you can help:
Request organizing materials to educate and organize in your community. You can print flyers and petitions right from the Campaign for New York Health website or you can also request organizing materials, like flyers and postcards to the Senate to use at community events (like parades, fairs, and parties!)
Recruit business owners to join the Business Owners for New York Health campaign. Let us know via the Campaign for NY Health volunteer page that you'd like to be part of the business outreach team. You can find useful printable materials for outreach to businesses in this Google folder.
Join an upcoming event or training. Base-Building Canvassing Trainings are being scheduled around the state. These trainings will prepare us to build our local movement for health care for all by listening to people's personal health care experiences and using those stories to invite them to join our work. If you'd like to organize a training in your area, contact email@example.com Listen to the recording here of our conversation with the Southern Maine Workers’ Center about their inspiring Health Care is a Human Right base-building efforts.
