We can breathe a short sigh of relief. The Republican disaster known as TrumpCare has been declared dead-on-arrival. It’s a rare victory that will keep as many as 30 million people from being dropped by insurance companies.

But we can’t be complacent. While the draconian Republican plans would have been worse, the system we have now is terrible. Medical costs and insurance premiums have skyrocketed in recent years and an estimated 29 million people remain without coverage. All this while insurance and health care companies have posted record profits.
