This last year has seen a massive surge in support and activism for guaranteed health care in New York State and nationally. Now is the opportune time to demand that we create a healthcare system that works not just for some, but for all. In order to win, we need to build the base of people who know about the solution to our healthcare crisis. That’s why we canvass.
Despite horrifying statistics – unnecessary deaths, medical bankruptcy, denials and delays in getting needed care – people are rarely moved to action by data. Our most compelling arguments for inspiring others to act are rooted in our personal stories and shared experiences, not by facts in a research report or a spreadsheet. Canvassing our communities to talk with others about their experiences with the healthcare system is an essential tactics for getting the word out and bringing new people into the movement for NY Health and Medicare for All.
This virtual training will prepare you to grow the movement for healthcare for all by hosting a canvassing event in your community. We will share persuasive canvassing techniques, also know as "deep canvassing," adapted from the Knock Every Door national Medicare for All campaign. We will review everything you need to know in order to train other volunteers to join you in canvassing.
Door knocking and one-on-one canvassing are essential tactics for getting the word out and bringing new people into the movement for NY Health and Medicare for All. Join this training to learn more about how we will build the movement to win healthcare for all, one conversation at a time. Not only is this one of the most effective tactics for building a base to win, but it can be invigorating to speak one on one with people, reminding us why we are called to do this work.
