Winning a healthcare system that guarantees care for all of us will require a movement that includes all of us, especially those who will benefit the most from transforming the current healthcare system. To build this movement, we must actively engage the uninsured and underinsured and invite them into leadership of our movement for health care for all. In the lead up to the 2018 legislative session, the Campaign for New York Health will be focussing on expanding the base of support for the New York Health Act throughout the state through one-on-one canvassing to collect healthcare stories and recruit new leaders into our work to win health care for all.
On Monday, July 17, join a special Zoom conference to learn from the Southern Maine Workers' Center (SMWC) about their work organizing for health care as a human right. We'll be joined by Ron Flannery and Melissa Bell of the SMWC Health Care is a Human Right campaign. They will share about their organizations, the human rights framework that guides their work, and base-building methodology SMWC uses to recruit new members and collect health care stories. We will also share information about upcoming trainings in New York on Base Building and Canvassing using the Health Care Access organizing tool.
Currently, Base-Building and Canvassing Trainings are scheduled in Schenectady on Monday July, 24 and Syracuse on Monday July 31. More trainings are being scheduled so keep an eye out for opportunities in your region (or contact [email protected] to schedule a training in your area.)
The Zoom conference will be recorded and available to view and listen to on the Campaign for New York Health website.

The purpose of this Zoom conference? The Campaign for New York Health is launching a statewide canvassing effort to collect health care stories and to build the base of support for universal healthcare in preparation for the 2018 legislative session. Join the Zoom conference on Monday evening where we will learn from organizers from the Souther Maine Workers Center about the base building tools they have been using to build their campaign for Health Care as a Human Right, collect healthcare, and to develop new leaders. We will also learn about the process they used to develop their Enough For All: A People's Repot on Health Care that illustrates how the current health care crisis impacts people throughout Maine.
Currently, there are "Base Building and Canvassing" trainings scheduled in Schenectady and Syracuse. Trainings are also being scheduled in Buffalo, Rochester, Ithaca, and the Hudson Valley.
