Elizabeth Rosenthal commented on Share Your Healthcare Story 2021-05-28 14:22:55 -0400As a physician I accepted Medicare in payment but not Medicare Advantage plans as they paid poorly and it was hard to extract the payment from the insurance companies. When a patient called my office and asked if I accepted Medicare, they were told yes. But then a patient arrived and presented their Medicare Advantage card and discovered that I was not I that plan so they could not afford to pay out of pocket and could not see me. This would never happen if we enacted the New York Health Act which would all but a very few physicians.
